HIGH levels of estrogen in the womb have been linked to autism, according to a new study. In the past, University of Cambridge researchers have seen elevated testosterone during pregnancy in children who developed autism, particularly boys. But fresh research points to a link between autism and estrogen. In the new study, scientists measured estrogen levels in 98 boys who developed autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and 177 boys who did not. Research showed high estrogen had a strong association with whether a baby developed ASD later, according to findings published in the journal Molecular Psychiatry.
