I love numbers. Some people just seem to have a flair for them and others, for whatever reason, can’t even bear to look at them. Many numbers have cultural significance and may have more or less favourable connotations, depending on where you are. But everybody seems to like the number 25. And yes, after 25 issues of a magazine, we can truly say that it is well under way, so here at GD we are very proud. Any survey among Porsche drivers on which is the most charismatic and iconic model would surely have the 356 Speedster among the top results. So, lets park the surveys and concentrate on what we really like. The Porsche 356 Speedster was introduced in 1954 after Max Hoffman advised the company that a low-cost, no-frills convertible could do well on the US market. With its low windscreen (which could be removed for weekend racing) and tiny foldaway top, the Speedster became an instant success, particularly in California. Although the Porsche 356, with its small engine, was never a very fast car, the lighter Speedster improved its dynamic performance much more.
