Fashion changes, but style endures. Eternal words by the one and only Coco Chanel. Naturally, those things that do endure in an industry as dynamic as fashion has always fascinated me. And as luck would have it, I managed to chat with Danny Beauchamp, our cover model for this Style issue, who has been in the business for 15 years—amazingly long for a male model. Our chat took us back to a time before you could watch a runway show unfold live from half across the world. At the same time, we also touched on the inevitability of the new reality of fashion—one where models are appraised by the number of their followers and campaigns roll out on a brand’s virtual walls. Nowadays, London Fashion Week Men’s—or LFWM to be exact—is increasingly seen as an international hub for talent, innovation and heritage. Since its inception, LFWM has showcased the length and breadth of the British menswear market. British clothing brand Ben Sherman has always been associated with classical looks, with the brand’s heritage shirts being its signature staple. For the spring/summer season of 2018, however, creative director Mark Williams injected bold colors and rich patterns. The collection is inspired by the so-called Peacock Revolution in the ’60s which brought about numerous changes in society, and also in fashion. Models often have to do some pretty challenging things to help create images that look deceptively simple. For Marley Camacho, one of those moments came when he was chosen to join Versus Versace’s spring/summer 2018 campaign that had him floating face up in a pool. It seems effortless, but proved to be quite challenging. Before New York Fashion Week: Men’s (NYFW: Men’s) and New York Fashion Week (NYFW) kicked off last July, there was a lot of talk about how NYFW is dwindling. Essentially, New York’s spring/summer 2018 lineup is missing some big names. When I first received the invitation to meet with top fashion mogul Ben Chan, it was hard not to sound star-struck. He is, after all, a national treasure, cultural icon and living legend—and that’s putting it mildly. 1 YAY OR NAY: DENIM ON DENIM? Short answer: Yes! Long answer: We know that, sometimes, mixing and matching separate denim pieces in one outfit can be quite hard. The key to pulling off the denim-on-denim look is having the right balance. If you’re not sure what goes with what, take a light denim shirt with a darker pair of jeans or vice versa and play around with the combination. One thing to remember, contrasting your top and bottom half is essential. Why? Because you don’t want to be stuck with the same tone all over. Designers at Milan Fashion Week (MFW) Spring/Summer 2018 renounced the seasonal rules of menswear by incorporating winter fabrics for the warmer months ahead. There was corduroy in Salvatore Ferragamo, fur in Fendi, cashmere in Ermenegildo Zegna, silk in Etro and satin in Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana. Born in Colombia, trained in Belgium and triumphed in Paris, Haider Ackermann is a force to be reckoned with in the world of luxury fashion. His rise to fame began in 2001 with the creation of his own label, which bore his signature style of simplicity merged with asymmetry. Growing up, Harry Rowley never really saw modeling as a serious career option. Not that people around him didn’t float the idea from time-to-time, mind you, considering his looks and physique.
