Dishing up roast spuds and Yorkshire puddings, I watched everyone tuck in.
It was June 2018 and my daughter Karen, 50, and her girls Imogen Grace, 21, Rhiannon Hope, 19, and Evie Faith, 13, were over for Sunday lunch.
‘Your roasts are the best, Mum,’ Karen beamed.
They lived round the corner, so we saw them most days.
And every summer, we all went away to a holiday camp in Paignton, Devon.
Karen was great fun, loved the fancy dress contests there.
She’d organise themed costumes – pirates, Smurfs, Strictly Come Dancing…
We once dressed up as the Addams family!
And Karen was on top form today, telling us about her beloved horse Jasper.
But a shadow crossed her face as her mobile suddenly buzzed.
