Apples There used to be over 7,000 varieties of apple, but with the supermarkets’ desire for uniformity, many have disappeared. We all love the Bramley the king of cookers, but here are some great eating apples to look out for in shops and farmers’ markets. Lord Lambourne Big apple with a greeny-yellow skin and, often, a red blush. It’s crisp and aromatic, but only slightly sweet. Ashmead’s Kernel Hard apple and less juicy than many.
