PEUGEOT has improved the efficiency and battery range of its fully electric e-208 and e-2008 models. Although the two cars still feature the same 50kWh battery and 134bhp electric motor, they both achieve around 15 miles more range on a charge. Peugeot quotes a range of 225 miles for the new e-208, while the range of the e-2008 has been increased to 214 miles. To achieve this Peugeot has tweaked the electric motor’s final drive so that it doesn’t need to spin as fast to maintain motorway speeds. This reduces energy usage on faster roads. A SPORTS Tourer estate will be added to Vauxhall’s Astra line-up, offering extra practicality over the five-door model. The new car will be available with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid options. AUDIO BOTH cars have upgraded systems. While the BMW’s Harman Kardon set-up is clear and powerful, it can’t match the Merc’s Burmester. It’s the £8 gallon and it’s one of the motoring rip-offs of the year – not least because, very deliberately, the eye-wateringly high price isn’t clearly displayed to unsuspecting customers.
