The subject matter, at first glance, is difficult to place - are these contemporary events, dressed up in the fashions and aesthetic styles of old? The paintings seem too new - might this be some overwrought postmodern experiment? But no, on second glance, the work of Haydar Hatemi, an Iranian artist who moved to Turkey and is now under the employ of the Qatari royal family, is utterly sincere in its portrayals of an earlier time period, completed in the artistic style of that era.
