The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is the second-oldest continuous sporting event in the US. Its organizer, the Westminster Kennel Club, is marking its 150th anniversary this year. To honor the occasion, the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog in New York City is hosting an exhibition through March 22. Titled The Life of a Showdog: Celebrating 150 Years of Westminster, it offers a behind-the-scenes look at the show’s history, handlers, and champions.
The first Westminster Dog Show took place in 1877 in New York City, with 1,201 dogs competing. Last year, more than 2,500 dogs entered. The winner was Monty, a Giant Schnauzer.
