On 7 September around 60,000 runners took part in one of the biggest half marathons in the world – the Great North Run. The 13.1-mile course, which started in Newcastle, England, made its way through Gateshead and South Tyneside before finishing in South Shields.
Most of the runners taking part were raising money for charities and some even dressed up in crazy costumes like characters from Scooby-Doo and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. More than 3,600 people ran on behalf of the charity British Heart Foundation, raising around £520,000.
Several celebrities also took part, including double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes, fitness expert Joe Wicks and Dragon’s Den star Sara Davies.
