It’s easy to come up with excuses not to run—you’re too tired, you don’t have time, work is crazy, your kids are crazy. “Every runner has gotten ready to put her shoes on and said, ‘I’m just not into this today,’” says Janet Hamilton, an exercise physiologist and coach with Running Strong in Atlanta. “But signing up for a 5-K and giving yourself mini goals to accomplish every day will increase your chances of lacing up anyway.”
