Nadia Khan nadia.khan@inl.co.za ANTI-APARTHEID Struggle activist Maniben Sita has been remembered for her contribution to the fight for freedom.
Sita, 94, who lived at a retirement home in Laudium, Pretoria, died of Covid-19 complications in hospital last Wednesday.
Fakir Hassen, a veteran journalist and author, said Sita devoted her life to fighting apartheid.
He said Sita was born into a family that was active in political resistance in both her father’s native India and then in South Africa.
“She was inspired by her father, Nana Sita, who, in turn, was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. Her father spent several months living with Gandhi when the latter came to Pretoria as a young lawyer to fight a case for a local Indian merchant.
