For me, having a home refresh means lots of new colours! Any excuse for colour play, right? I’m going to pull out some of my fave new combos and talk you through my thought process as I go to show you how to put colour palettes together. Calm Sunset With this first palette, I’m pairing on-trend peaches with soft purples. My first step is to lay out as many colour chips as I think might match my concept. Sewing was always part of my life when I was young – my mum is a keen sewist, as was my nana, and my great-grandma was a trained seamstress too. After my A-levels, I took a year out and got a temporary job on the reception desk at a company that created bespoke soft toys. Remember that film a few years ago called Super Size Me? One of the main messages of the movie was that our desire to keep making things in bigger and bigger sizes was bad and that we should go back to proper portion control. It’s a good message to share but I think that it comes with one big exception* – quilt blocks! There’s something so enchanting about a supersize quilt block. What’s your favourite part of the quilt-making process? Mine’s that moment when you’ve sewn the very first block, when it’s been trimmed and pressed, and it’s looking great. Nothing gets my sewjo fired up more than that initial triumph! Now, how about your least favourite part? I won’t be alone when I say it’s the quilting.
