Recently I’ve been thinking about fresh starts, which just rings so true for me after the holiday season. Once all the merry-making is over, it’s nice to think about the year ahead and what crafty projects might be in store, as well as what colours I might be using for them! As I build my colour palettes, I’ll be sharing my thought process, which I hope you'll find helpful. I’m using a cut up Kona Cotton Solids Colour Card by Robert Kaufman, but you can use any system. For the Boys I’d love to make some fabric storage buckets for my kids so they can easily clean up their toys.  At QuiltCon 2015, I came across Holy Sh*t Sherlock. Standing back, I was in awe of the quilt’s graphic impact and immediately tried to figure out how it was made. I was so mesmerised that I failed to realise that the quilt’s creator, Kristy Daum, was also white-gloving the quilt. I probably said something like “wow” and she just smiled. Winter’s Primary: Take 1 I’m surveying my colour chip pile to decide what colour might look nice next to these two. What about this one, Kona Watermelon? Watermelon happens to be a personal favourite of mine. Do you find yourself coming back to the same colour? Anyway, I think Watermelon looks pretty great here Winter’s Primary: Take 2 Going back to my colour pile, I’m liking these two energetic light blues, Kona Jamaica and Kona Robin Egg. In truth, I likely picked Jamaica first and then chose Robin Egg as a complement. It’s nice to have two or more of the same colour in the same palette. How many times is too many to unpick something? This is a question I’ve been asking myself a lot lately. I’ve been sewing for a few years now, and I sew a lot – just ask the man that services my sewing machine! When I first started, I was shocking at it, to the point where one sewing instructor told me I should think about taking up another hobby. It was not uncommon for me to have a good quarter of an inch or more of shortness at one end and overhang at the other when joining pieces.
