THE WORD LEGACY IS OFTEN associated with the past, but Virgil Abloh always knew that it was really about the future. It was a notion that the late designer, artist, and creative force, who passed away in November, lived by. Growing up in Rockford, Illinois, the son of parents who had immigrated to the U.S. from Ghana, Abloh was enthralled with skateboarding and hip-hop, two subcultures with strong DIY ethics.
