WILD STYLE Make some noise with Proenza Schouler's new Tambourine bag For Proenza Schouler's spring collection, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez focused on the coolness of collage—patchworking different hues of python into a vest, fashioning jackets from contrasting squares of leather, and juxtaposing digital prints for graphic dresses. The designers' fleet of accessories stayed true to the theme, as the duo dreamed up a series of pop-y mixed-media extras. The Tambourine bag (shown) was created with a combination of elements, including animal-print pony hair, hologram lizard skin, patent leather, and anodized-metal tiles. How you feel about the return of the miniskirt will depend on the following: your relationship with your legs, your relationship with your age, and your relationship with thick, stretchy, hold-it-all-together tights. "Personally, I despise my legs," says Tibi founder and designer Amy Smilovic, "but a very short skirt felt new to me this season. I love it in the mix, especially when minimalism's so strong. THE DESTINATION I love going to Zihuatanejo because of its proximity to uncrowded surf. The climate is great, the people are warm and welcoming, and the town is so quiet and mellow—not very touristy. The sky is thick with rain clouds, and the pathways are an obstacle course of puddles and mud. Burton is swathed in an animal-print scarf, leggings, a tailored black shirt, and an overcoat, her pale blue eyes immediately lighting up at the natural splendor before her. SUMMARY OF THE SEASON After seeing the Spring 2013 collections, I began to think, Are the only tools needed for a new spring wardrobe a ruler and a T square? Designers came up with so many geome-tricks that they seemed to herald a new era of optical illusion. But the games designers play are complex, and many other ideas came down the runways. There were cultural reference mash-ups, such as fedoras and floor-sweeping skirts, that at first looked like 1970s throwbacks. On closer inspection, the fabrics told a modern story. Womanly glamour brought ruffles and rivulets splashing across the body in waves of brightly colored silks—or, in the case of Balenciaga, the undulating fabric produced sensuous Spanish skirts.
