I was saddened to read Britney Spears is trapped in a lonely prison (6 May). Britney has come a long way since 2007, when she made headlines for stints in rehab and shaving her head. I remember an interview where she said her twenties were ‘awful’ and that she felt overwhelmed and not in control of her own life. This is the problem with mental illness – it isn’t like a sinus infection. You can’t just wait it out or take a pill to make everything go away. Our brains are complex and enigmatic.
