A DIRECTOR of HRA Trading (Pty) Ltd, Rumesh Bavasah, and his bookkeeper, Ebel Anwar, pleaded guilty to charges of fraud and tax evasion in the Special Commercial Crimes Court in Kimberley this week. HRA Trading was awarded a R90 million tender by the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism for events management and promotion of the Kumba skate park in Kimberley in 2019. The company submitted false company income tax and false VAT returns to the South African Revenue Service (Sars) in 2018 with the intent to obtain a tax refund, where the accused unduly benefited from R6.9 million. A MASSIVE investment of close to R2 billion has been secured by Sol Plaatje Municipality through several land development projects in and around Kimberley. Sol Plaatje executive mayor Kagisho Sonyoni said that through the assistance of the council’s spatial planning, environment and land use management (Spelum) committee, the municipality has been able to approve several building plan applications, which would provide a great economic injection to the city. THE POSTMASBURG police are investigating a murder case after a 20-year-old man died in hospital after being attacked by an angry mob in Newton, Postmasburg. The deceased was implicated in the fatal stabbing of a well-known and loved community member, Gladwin Bele, 29, not far from his home on September 16. Bele died in hospital after suffering multiple stab wounds. It is believed that Bele, who worked at one of the local mines, was in his street trying to give directions to a delivery truck when he was accosted by his killer/s. After being stabbed, Bele ran to a neighbour’s house and they managed to rush him to hospital. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
