I recommend it highly to any reader of SF for its immersive surreality and astute grasp of the modern condition. In 1986 Hollywood lore held that sequels routinely fell short of their predecessor. Aside from the shining exceptions of The Godfather Part II (1974) and The Empire Strikes Back (1980) follow-up films were generally seen as opportunistic cash-grabs.
