Where did the name Down Grapevine Lane come from? Our first house in Australia was on a street called Grapevine Lane in McLaren Vale, the picturesque wine region in South Australia. We had stunning views of miles of vineyards stretching towards the hills in the distance, and that was the house where my sewing journey began. I decided to start a hobby blog when I was pregnant with my daughter and a friend suggested the name for it. We have since moved to a much bigger property with acreage in the same town (still with beautiful vineyard views) but the name has stuck as it’s so widely recognised in the sewing community. Piecing a Log Cabin block Log Cabin blocks are made up of a centre square, with “logs” added around the centre, one at a time. The logs are traditionally added in a circular order. A set of four logs around the centre is called a “round”. Finished sizes The Log Cabin Trim Tool will make blocks with three rounds, with a finished size of either 3½in square or 7in square (4in and 7½in unfinished). These two sizes will work together. So two 3½in blocks can be sewn together against one 7in block. 1 Choose which size block you want to make and cut strips of fabric to size.
