In the same Star Wars-esque way that darkness means nothing without light, going fast means nothing without the ability to slow down. It’s something Mavic was keen to stress when it launched its Pro Carbon SL wheels last year, and it seems particularly pertinent to the range’s latest addition, the Comete, which the manufacturer claims is the fastest of the lot.
The Pro Carbon SL range uses an advanced resin system Mavic dubs ‘iTgMax’, which guards braking performance against heat build-up, and it backs that up with a laser treatment that scours that top layer of resin from the brake track.
‘This patented process keeps braking predictable because it leaves nearly zero surface variations,’ explains Olivier Mouzin, Mavic’s industrialisation expert.
