YUSUF Abramjee, a social activist, is determined to create a South Africa where social cohesion exists.
Last week Nathi Mthethwa, Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, appointed Abramjee as the chairperson of the steering committee on social cohesion advocates.
Abramjee’s deputies are Vinolia Mabele, an entrepreneur, actress and philanthropist, and Dr Cresencia Nyathi, a human rights project co-ordinator at Africa Unite.
Edwin Cleophas, a social justice activist, was elected as secretary-general and Dr Balungile Zondi, a PhD anthropology scholar, as the spokesperson.
Mthethwa said: “I emphasise the urgency of this work (fostering social cohesion), given the fault lines that still remain. Social cohesion advocacy must be taken to all parts of the country.”
